All I see lately from OPM is focus on removing and disciplining federal employees. You all say you want people to perform their best and you want to attract the best and the brightest and yet, absolutely no focus on trying to boost morale, encourage high performance, reward high performance and pay disparity. You all know you stripped away one of the greatest benefits we had, (that is afforded to many private sector employees) that of telework - and I have yet to see any incentives that would be deemed attractive to recruit for federal employment. Who will want to work for us when all we do is talk about punishing and removing employees, flaunt a 0% pay adjustment on the heels of a 1% adjustment, increasing healthcare costs with worse coverage, and no telework? Engineers? Do you have any idea how underpaid your federal engineering workforce (NOT software engineers) is compared to the private sector even when benefits are included? Do you know how much extra workload is dumped on your remaining employees after the DOGE exodus-for no pay increase? Do you guys even care?

I’m not against tightening up expectations and making sure performance aligns with goals. But good God. You guys act like 90% of the federal workforce is performing at a needs improvement level.

“If Life Gives You Lemons, Dance” should be the motto of federal human resources. I couldn’t choose a better example of the government’s inability to match the people to the actual work. Federal managers get a workload of lemons and rather than figure out how to make lemonade and hiring the people to do it, they just determine they need dancers - based on absolutely nothing.

Just like these recent “solutions”. You’re solving the wrong problem Scott!
